Presently the Department of Bengali offers undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programmes. The curriculum is designed to foster critical thinking and creative faculty among the students. Besides providing a comprehensive understanding of Bengali language and literature, it focuses on some special areas like literary theory, popular literature, literature of Bangladesh, partition literature, stylistics, semiotics, and chomskyan generative grammar. Ph.D. programme systematically helps the scholars to develop research skills and to acquire a set of research tools. In this direction the Bengali department successfully completed UGC sponsored DRS SAP Phase I & II project in recent-past.
The department organizes seminar, workshop, and symposiums on regular basis. Renowned academician, eminent writers, actors and media persons share their knowledge and skills on these platforms. Our objective is to develop an engagement with the academia in and outside the campus, as well as with the wider community beyond academia.
The department has all the modern amenities for students along with a rich departmental library having more than eighteen thousand books and journals. It has been publishing a prestigious academic journal Bangla Bibhagiyo Patrika over a long period time. In more recent years the department is engaged in publishing books of academic interest.
