Brief history of the Centre:

The Centre for Refugee Studies was set up in 1997 to carry on research, initiate academic programmes, and influence public policy on issues related to forced migration, rehabilitation and repatriation. It is the pioneer in this field of study in the country. It is also one of the very few in this area at the international level, and is in constant interaction and collaboration with other institutions and organizations carrying on such activities, such as the UNHCR, the International Committee of the Red Cross, and the US Committee for Refugees. Since the Centre has no permanent staff of its own as yet, it is run from the Department of International Relations. Projects, field training, internship and seminars are available to students of the University under the auspices of the Centre.

Outline of the admin1istrative/academic structure:

The Centre has an admin1istrative Committee with 10 members and an Academic Committee with 16 members (30 per cent from outside the University). The day-to-day running of the Centre is in the hands of the Co-Ordinator.
