Achievements

The Department was identified as a DSA Department of Special Assistance by UGC from 1977 to 1984. Under the Special Assistance Program (DSA and CAS) the department carried out its group and individual research activities resulting in a publication program evidenced by the quality of research work. Apart from that with the generous fund released by the UGC and the State Govt. the University could generate research facilities and develop the infrastructure it has.    The Department has successfully completed the five phases (1984-2021) of the Centre of Advanced Study program recognised and accredited by the UGC.     One significant feature of the department is that the department forms smaller research groups with members having shared interests and publishes anthologies as a product of those group research activities. As the department flourished it gradually created four other centres already mentioned. These centres organise invited lectures, short term courses and reorientation courses. Weekly workshops are held by some of the existing and retired teachers of the department. Works of the teachers of the department are translated into other languages and incorporated into the syllabi of universities of other countries.
