School Of Mobile Computing and Communication

School of Mobile Computing and Communication started as Center for Mobile Computing and Communication and was declared as Center for Excellence by UGC. The center has been promoted to School of Mobile Computing and Communication in 2006. The school has an objective of promoting study and research activities in various areas of Mobile Computing and Distributed Computing. An AICTE-approved 2-year Post-Graduate Degree Course on Distributed & Mobile Computing is being offered from 2006 academic session. In addition, the School regularly organizes short term courses in Mobile and Distributed Computing.

About

Centre for Mobile Computing and Communication in Jadavpur University was established in 2004 under the University with Potential for Excellence Programme. In 2006, School of Mobile Computing and Communication was set up and the activities of the centre began being carried out under the umbrella of the school. Further to the promotion of research activities which was one of the objectives of the centre, the school focused on strengthening of specialized education in the area of Mobile Computing and Communication. During the 20 years of establishment, the major objectives pursued by the centre and then by the school are:

 

  1. Creation of state-of-the-art infrastructure and laboratories for carrying out teaching and research in mobile computing and communication and in related areas.
  2. Initiation of an M. Tech course in Distributed and Mobile Computing.
  3. Boosting of Research Activities through Involvement of many faculty members from various departments of the University in research and development activities in mobile computing and communication.
  4. Organization of National / International conferences, seminars, short term courses targetting different academicians and students of the state.
  5. Participation in various outreach programs with social importance.
  6. Establishing collaboration and relationship with different industries and institutions in the country and abroad.

 

The primary objective of the School has always remained to deploy state-of-the-art infrastructure within the University and to assist the students and researchers of the University to use this infrastructure and thus enabling them to achieve world-class standard in study and research.

 

There are two classrooms and three Mobile Computing Laboratories with smart facilities in the School of Mobile Computing and Communication. A departmental library for specilaized study in the area with reading facility. The library currently contains more than 600 books in the related areas. A seminar hall with the sitting capacity of 100 persons.

Organized Fourth (4th) International Conference AMOC 2006 Kolkata  (Asian International Mobile Computing Conference 2006) organized by Centre for Mobile Computing & Communication, Jadavpur University was held at Kolkata between January 04, 2006 and January 07, 2006.

Organized Fifth (5th) International Conference AMOC 2007 Kolkata  (Asian International Mobile Computing Conference 2007) organized by Centre for Mobile Computing & Communication, Jadavpur University was held at Hyatt Regency, Kolkata between January 3, 2007 and January 6, 2007.

Organized Training Programme for Teachers of Schools of W.B. Govt. at the Computer Centre,      Salt Lake Campus during the period of November 23 – December 3, 2009 and December 7-16, 2009 by SMCC. 

‘Workshop on Mobile Computing’ organized by Dept. of IT of MCKV Institute of Engineering in association with School of Mobile Computing and Communication, Jadavpur University at Liluah and Salt Lake during September 7, 2010 and September 10, 2010.

Organized Teachers’ Training Program on Computer Aided Learning (CAL)  jointly with Sarva Siksha Mission, Kolkata held during Nov. 15, 2010 to Nov. 29, 2010.

Organized Teachers’ Training Program on Computer Aided Learning (CAL) jointly with Sarva Siksha Mission, Kolkata held during Nov. 23, 2010 to Dec. 19, 2010.

Seminar on ‘Role of Free Software in the development of Nation’ organized by Free Software Mancha, West Bengal (FSMWB) and SMCC, JU at main Campus and held during February 5 & 6, 2011.

Workshop on Statistical Analysis using ‘R’ organized by FSMWB and SMCC, JU at JU main campus on December 9 & 10, 2011.

Organized 3 days “International Conference on Applications and Innovations in Mobile Computing” (AIMoC 2014) at SMCC, Jadavpur University from February 27, 2014 to March 1, 2014.
