The Department of Chemistry was established in the year 1956 and since then it has steadily developed into a leading centre of teaching and research in Jadavpur University.

The Department of Geography under the Faculty of Science offers undergraduate (B.Sc.), Post Graduate (M.Sc.), and Ph.D. degrees in Geography. The Department is hosted in the third and fourth floor of the Meghnad Saha Bhavan (Integrated Science Building) of the main campus of Jadavpur University.

The Department of Geological Sciences, established in 1956 at Jadavpur University, is one of the most recognized geoscience departments in India, securing the status of Center for Advanced Studies way back in the early eighties. The innovative research, passionate pedagogy, productive public engagement, and relevant outreach activities steered the Department to find a place in the front row of globally top geological institutes. This Department runs well-curated UG, PG, and PhD programs, with remarkable flexibility and curiosity-driven learning scope in the curricula. Its alumni are currently holding responsible and leading positions in academia, industry, and public administration all over the world. The Department strives to address fundamental science questions on the surface to deep earth processes, keeping relevance to the critical environmental issues and societal needs.

This department belongs to Faculty of Science Jadavpur University, Kolkata. Formerly University Science Instrumentation Center (USIC), Established in 1980. Upgraded to the Department of Instrumentation Science in May, 2004 as an Academic Department.

The department of Life Science and Biotechnology was established in the year 1985. Since its inception, the department has thrived to flourish in various interdisciplinary and vast areas of Life Science. Till now the department has produced a steady flow of high-quality students and scholars who excelled in their careers later. The major strength of the department is its location which is within the close physical proximity of a number of nationally famous Institutes and Research laboratories. Although this opens up the possibility of establishing collaborative research and exchange academic programs with other institutions, the department is the only department in the University, which pursues its academic programme in the area of fundamental and basic life science research. Consequently, the scope of in-house collaborative research and complementation of academic activities with other departments is relatively less. In addition, the financial and other support of the host institution to the department is not adequate. Therefore, the major current challenge for the department is to expand vigorously within the available limited support systems of the University

The Department of Mathematics offers Under Graduate, Post Graduate (Day & Evening) and Ph.D. Programmes.

The journey of Physics Department of Jadavpur University has started since 1956 under the efficient leadership of renowned scientist Prof. Shyamadas Chatterjee.
