Sheli Sinha Chaudhuri

Dr. Sheli Sinha Chaudhuri did her undergraduate, post graduate and doctoral studies from the department of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering, Jadavpur University. She has been serving the same department as a faculty member since the last 25 years. She served as the Head of the Department during 2018-2020.She has been working in the field of Digital Image Processing since the last sixteen years. She is actively involved in taking UG and PG courses, documentation of department data, and in the induction program of first year students. She is also involved in the evening courses run in the department. She is involved in the development of the IC Design and Fabrication Centre of the department, raising funds through the alumni to upgrade this departmental facility. She designed a summer training course of 5 weeks on Embedded Systems and IoT, and developed the IoT Lab. She has participated in various programs under TEQIP II and TEQIP III, including the mentor-mentee program of TEQIP III. She has participated in various schemes under JU RUSA 2.0 also. She did her doctoral studies on path planning of mobile robots based on the inputs of different sensors. Her research work includes developing various image processing algorithms, proceeding to computer vision domain, mainly in the area of medical image analysis and restoration of weather degraded images. At present she is guiding her students/scholars in the AI based automatic detection and classification of medical images, farm produces, remote sensing images, waste images and tracking of object from video sequences. Her research has resulted in a number of conference papers, journal papers, book chapters, Phd and PG theses as well as copyrights on various techniques related to hazy night-time image benchmarking database, a fuzzy controller for detection of sky regions in daytime outdoor images, and design of modified advanced Lee filter development of waste dataset, healthy and diseased leaf dataset, fruits and flowers of West Bengal, video clips of moving objects in adverse weather, etc.The datasets are used for references based on which the efficiency of automatic classification and detection algorithms are tested. She motivates students at all levels to participate in technical competitions. Currently she is involved in research collaboration with Universite d’ Evry, Paris and NIT Meghalaya. She is a member of IEI and IEEE, currently holding the post of Chair, Women in Engineering (WIE) Affinity Group, IEEE Kolkata Section.
