Jadavpur University Institution’s Innovation Council

Ministry of Human Resource Development, Govt. of India has established an ‘Innovation cell’ with a purpose of systematically fostering the culture of Innovation in all Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) across the country. MIC has envisioned encouraging creation of ‘Institution’s Innovation Council (IICs)’ across selected HEIs. A network of these IICs was established to promote innovation in the Institution through multitudinous modes leading to an innovation promotion eco-system in the campuses.

Major focus of IIC

To create a vibrant local innovation ecosystem.Start-up supporting Mechanism in HEIs. Prepare institute for Atal Ranking of Institutions on Innovation Achievements Framework. Establish Function Ecosystem for Scouting Ideas and Pre-incubation of Ideas. Develop better Cognitive Ability for Technology Students.

Functions of IIC

• To conduct various innovation and entrepreneurship-related activities prescribed by Central MIC in time bound fashion.
• Identify and reward innovations and share success stories.
• Organize periodic workshops/ seminars/ interactions with entrepreneurs, investors, professionals and create a mentor pool for student innovators.
• Network with peers and national entrepreneurship development organizations.
• Create an Institution’s Innovation portal to highlight innovative projects carried out by institution’s faculty and students.
• Organize Hackathons, idea competition, mini-challenges etc. with the involvement of industries.

Jadavpur University Entrepreneurship Cell

The Jadavpur University Entrepreneurship Cell has been created with the aim of invoking a spirit of entrepreneurship among the new generation, one of the steps taken to pave the path of the future of our Nation and its growing economy. Aim of this body is to provide a platform to guide these creative minds through effective interaction between the student body and esteemed members of the corporate world, successful entrepreneurs, investors, venture capitalists, thus enabling them to transform their innovative ideas into entrepreneurial ventures.

The Entrepreneurship Cell was formed on 20th July, 2016 through a workshop held in the Salt Lake Campus of the Jadavpur University, in presence of Prof. Suranjan Das, Vice Chancellor of Jadavpur University, Prof. Asis Mazumdar, Member Secretary, Business Incubation Centre (MSME), Jadavpur University, several other distinguished faculty members and officers of the university and many other eminent personalities of the start-up community such as, Mr. Aloke Mookherjea, Former Chairman, Confederation of Indian Industry (ER) and Mr. Ravi Ranjan, Sr. Associate, NASSCOM 10,000 Start-ups.

Activities of the E-Cell

• Organizing events and workshops to develop an Entrepeneurial culture among the students
• Offering Mentorship to the aspiring Entrepreneurs, by providing necessary guidance on business planning; entrepreneurial finance; start-up and business related laws; app, software and website development etc. through a host of events and bringing in suitable mentors
• Imparting training in the sphere of investment through virtual stock markets
• Organizing Business Plan competitions, and thus helping students prepare for Business Plan competitions organized by other institutes such as IITs and IIMs
• Overall grooming of the members, creating the new wave of Entrepreneurs of our country

Startup Policy

Jadavpur University is a participating Institute in National INNOVATION and STARTUP Policy 2019 (NISP) for Students and Faculty.

NISP is a Guiding Framework for Higher Education Institutions

The National Innovation and Startup Policy 2019 for students and faculty of Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) will enable the institutes to actively engage students, faculties, Alumnis and staff in innovation and entrepreneurship related activities. This framework will also facilitate Ministry of Human Resource Development in bringing uniformity across HEIs in terms of Intellectual Property ownership management, technology licensing and institutional Startup policy, thus enabling creation of a robust innovation and Start up ecosystem across all HEIs.
